Hello Families!
I just wanted to take a moment and thank you all for a wonderful first trimester. We have worked hard and learned a lot.
In math we have mastered multi-digit addition and subtraction and are well on our way to mastering 2 by 2 digit multiplication and 4 by 1 digit division. We have learned how to explain our thinking and use accountable talk to discuss others' ideas.
Room 204 LOVES reading! We read and loved our literature study of Maniac Magee for which we learned so much about home, friendship, racism, discrimination and love. One of our favorite times of days is silent independent reading! Which is closely followed by Author's Chair on Fridays where students excitedly share their work from the week. Often we are delighted by weekly "episodes" or chapters from those writing books.
We have also produced many writing pieces including Love That Dog summaries, poetry, Poet Biographies, reading responses, free write stories, a Colorado Animal book AND and five paragraph essay on Animal Defenses. Whew! We've been busy!
That's not all, we have also experienced several field trips such as "Ellis Island", the Governors' Mansion, The State Capitol but also enjoyed a visit from the Colorado History Museum and the Skype field trip to Yellowstone National Park!
We have taken action by collecting pennies for Penny Harvest, read and shared with our PYP buddies, thanked our donors and simply by taking care of each other each day.
Personal accomplishments were made regularly too! Gymnastics competitions, spelling bee practices, football games, and so much more! Keep up the good work fourth graders and there is no telling what you can do! Happy Thanksgiving and don't forget to read something you love over your break!
Love, Ms. Santorico
