Dear Families,
On behalf of all of us in room 204, we hope this finds you well. Here is a look into what we have been up to and where we’re headed!

Math - We are well on our way into our fractions unit. By the end of fourth grade, students are expected to
Ways to help at home: Find ways to use fractions at home with your family. Discuss fractions when cooking, or if doing any home improvements or projects. Check out Frontrowed.com. Each student has an account.

Reading - We are moving into complex informational text, including reading to determine central ideas and themes and to identify points of view and evaluate arguments and claims. Please see http://www.corestandards.org/ELA-Literacy/RI/4/ for more details.
Enrichment -We are still working on our Literature Circle Novels. Students are working in groups of 2-3 reading a novel of their choice. They have 3 responsibilities: Read the agreed upon number of pages, Complete the Reading Report completely, and meet to discuss that section. Students are mastering this process and in addition to reading amazing novels, they are working on communication, summarization, word and writing skills! It is so fun to watch.
IB- Unit of Inquiry
We have just concluded our Energy unit with a great display of knowledge through our PRO/CON posters. Students researched a variety of energy sources including: Advantages, Disadvantages, Form, Function and Perspective. Through action students demonstrate their commitment to making a positive change to the world.
Students have changed behaviors at home such as turning of lights and electronics when not in use, reminding others to do the same.
We now begin an exciting unit on all things Colorado! Here is a summary of the unit:
Central Idea: Primary and secondary sources create a lens through which a region's history, geography and economy is expressed and interpreted.
Lines of Inquiry:
Learner Profile: risk taker, communicator Transdiciplinary Skills: Research and Communication

Writing - Publishing!! Students will publish their Opinion Essays this week! Students have been developing 5 paragraph opinion essays on a chosen energy source.
Book Orders - Book orders went home about a week ago. Please turn in any orders this week and I’ll order on Friday 1/29. Thank you.

- Extend understanding of fraction equivalence and ordering including finding
- common denominators and being able to add, subtract and multiply fractions.
- Understand decimal notation for fractions, and compare decimal fractions.
